The Governor's Program for Gifted Children

GPGC 2024 | JUNE 9 – JULY 20

Physical Education

Physical education is offered as one of many afternoon electives that GPGC students may choose to take. PE classes are held at the McNeese State University Recreational Center where students are supervised in both structured and unstructured activities. Some of these include basketball, racquetball, track, swimming, and table tennis. Depending on the weather, students also may participate in soccer and softball.

In addition to the physical education classes, GPGC students may also visit the recreational center during their free time (after class and on weekends). They have full access to most areas of the center, including the swimming pool, basketball, racquetball, and tennis courts, and the track. They may also check out sports equipment from the center’s staff.

One of the best parts of the program

for me was, for once, it allowed me to be one of the "normal" kids, instead of the "brainiac" nerd. I cherish that gift.
