A Summer of Great Ideas

The Governor’s Program for Gifted Children is six weeks of academic enrichment, artistic opportunity, and friendship.

A residential program at McNeese State University since 1959, the GPGC is the oldest and most comprehensive enrichment program for gifted students in Louisiana. With an approach that aims to develop the whole child, the GPGC provides for the intellectual, creative, and social needs of gifted children.

Confidence

Before going into the Program, I had very little confidence in myself. I had difficulty relating to my peers and found little challenge in my school work. The Program introduced me firstly to engaging and exciting material that challenged me academically. I also had the experience of instantly and effortlessly relating to peers for the first time. These were people who understood me because they had experienced the same things as me. They got my jokes! It gave me the confidence to go back into my regular school year with the knowledge that I was a smart and funny person worthy of friendship-- and all of a sudden it made a lot more sense. The Program changed my life and is hugely responsible for the person I am today.
