The Governor’s Program for Gifted Children is seven weeks of academic enrichment, artistic opportunity, and friendship.
A residential program at McNeese State University since 1959, the GPGC is the oldest and most comprehensive enrichment program for gifted students in Louisiana. With an approach that aims to develop the whole child, the GPGC provides for the intellectual, creative, and social needs of gifted children.
Our session dates are June 8th – July 26th, 2025. The GPGC:
- Offers broad academic enrichment classes in Science, Humanities and Composition.
- Students also have the opportunity to select afternoon classes at the beginning of each session that range from artistic enrichment (Chorus, Musical Theatre, Visual Art, Instrumental Ensembles) to other interests (Critical Thinking through games, Publishing/Journalism, and even PE).
- The residential component provides a true learning-living environment where gifted students can engage with their peers without being labeled as “weird” or “nerds.”
- Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (2024-2025) are eligible for expedited admission.
Thanks to a recent grant, we have some extra funds to encourage low-income and rural families to apply. Costs to families can be as low as $200 for the seven-week program. An expedited application process is available recognizing that time is short.
While not ideal, if students have prior commitments, absences from the Program for up to a week can be accommodated depending on the exact timing.
